The main objective of this project is to carry out archaeological excavations in the Athulunuwara area in Anuradhapura which is of archaeological value and to relocate the residents within that area to be designated as an archaeological reserve.

It is also expected to create an urban environment in a planned town with all the facilities for the residents who are supposed to remove from the sacred area and to provide houses for the residents of the Malwathu Oya low lying areas.

The identified residents as needing to be relocated will be resettled in the new town to be created on 200 acres of land area in “Lolugaswewa” at Anuradhapura
